Trying to Keep Up

Sophie began crawling about 2 weeks ago at the age of 6 months, 3 weeks. It's amazing to see how fast she went from being non-mobile to getting into everything. She skipped the army crawl and went right up on all fours. She's been getting really good at pulling herself up into a stand and practicing walking holding on our fingers. She's even into "mountain climbing" up our legs and bodies.

Solids are going pretty well too. Since sweet potatoes, we have introduced peas, apples, pears, asian pears, broccoli, white potatoes, MN sweet corn, nectarines, peaches, mango, and pickles. On today's menu are egg yolk and watermelon - both hits! So far the only thing she hasn't truly enjoyed from the get-go is the broccoli, and we found that if we mixed it with a little fruit that she would eat it up. It's just a matter of getting used to the texture I think. She's also eating Zweiback crackers, which are handy for the teething.

I've been pretty bad about writing in this, but I've been in Minneapolis visiting with Mark, Karen and all since mid-July. We're here for another week and then we head back to Berkeley. It's been awesome to see Mark & Karen with Sophie - they love being grandparents so much, and it's wonderful that they are getting to spend so much quality time with her. We've spent a lot of time up at the lake, and Sophie is clearly a water baby. Jeff will take her down to the docks every morning when she gets up and he says she giggles and kicks her legs really hard. She loves swimming in the water too. It's a lot of fun to be here knowing that she enjoys it so much. We joke about how long before we get her into water skis.
