We'll work backwards with the flashbacks from our Christmas vacation in Minneapolis and Florida.
We arrived in Florida on the 27th, and all enjoyed a nice relaxing couple of days in the sun. We went out to dinner on Friday night, the 28th, and were enjoying a nice dinner when it turned a little traumatic. The restaurant apparently only had one high chair, which was being used, so the restaurant offered an extra chair to have some extra space for Sophie. Dinner was nice, and we mainly held Sophie on our laps, but when she was done eating, Jeff sat her down in the chair between us. We took turns eating and watching Sophie, but we both looked away for a second... just long enough for Sophie to stand up against the back of the chair - and yep, this is where the story is going - FALL OVER BACKWARDS! It was awful. I saw it happening, and couldn't do anything to stop it. She whacked her face on the back of the chair, and immediately started screaming. Jeff scooped her up and went off around a corner, Karen followed to check the situation out. I was so shocked and upset I couldn't even stand up for a few minutes. When I composed myself enough to get up and found Jeff, Sophie was still crying and her mouth was bleeding. Of course I thought the worst and started asking if she still had her teeth. Karen had checked her out, and she had all 7 teeth still. She had bit her lip pretty hard though and it was already starting to swell. We got her calmed down after 15 of the longest minutes of my life, and took her home. We kept offering her ice chips, frozen veggies, ice cream, popcicles and a frozen pacifier until bedtime and gave her some teething tablets and Tylenol to numb the pain a little. Jeff and I were pretty shaken up, but Sophie seemed OK by the time we put her to bed.
Thankfully the story ends happily. This morning when she woke up, her lip was barely swollen, she didn't seem to be in any pain, and was her normal, chipper self again. Whew - best case scenario for such an awful fall!
